Today I'm sitting in my own home studio for Nectafy, a company I started 14 years ago. I’ve worked from a home office for a very, very long time, and I’ve always loved the idea of looking amazing on every video call and feeling great in the space where I work. Now, I've figured out how to make it possible to instantly record high-quality video with a click of a button.
Today I was recording some videos, and I thought I should show you a bit of my set-up—my fully designed office, built in a 10’ by 11’ room. I have a video that gives you a visual of me walking around my office if you want to see that space, but today, I wanted to talk to you about three of my favorite design items, which I think are necessary for a good video-optimized office.
My 3 Favorite Components Of My Video-Optimized Office
1. Wood Wall Veneer Panels

First, let's talk about these wood veneer panels. These guys are showing up everywhere. In fact, I recently talked to a designer who said they are just blowing up in popularity, and for good reason.
The panels in my office are wood wall veneer panels; very thin. And what’s interesting is they're just made of felt. That's valuable in an office like this because it absorbs a ton of sound. Otherwise, you're going to get a lot of reverb.
In my office, this is a 48-inch panel that wraps around and does a really nice job of capturing the echoes. I love to order these from the Wood Veneer Hub.
2. PVC Shaped Panels

These PVC-shaped panels are from Art3d. They come in white or black, and I wanted just to have a little deeper color so I painted them gray. The darker gray you go the deeper the color is, but the less bright (obviously); I wanted to have sort of a dark to medium gray to get this effect all the way around.
3. Stone-Look Panels

These are 3D stone pieces made of about the thinnest possible plastic you could want. They actually work really, really well, and they’re beautiful.
I built a little box with side lighting to get a little glow there. If you really wanted to highlight the depth of the stone, I’d recommend doing a wash down the wall because you’d really see the emphasis on the shading.
Achieving Your Own Video-Optimized Office
So with just those three components—the stone, the PVC, and the wood veneer panels—you can create what I think is a really beautiful, really elegant look. Not only is it beautiful, but the wood panel and the plastic redirects a lot of the sound, which really helps with recording audio.
I was able to make this quick video on the fly because my office is already optimized for video! (If I were to plan it in advance, I’d put a lapel mic on for the best sound quality.) But I wanted to show you what my setup looks like and show how I'm able to do this on the spur of the moment. That’s the beauty of a video-optimized office!
I’d love to help you create and execute a vision for your own video-optimized office. Request a free consultation here and let’s talk!
